How do I know what size shoes to buy?
Buying shoes online for the first time can be daunting, but once you know your baby's foot measurement, it is a whole lot easier and lots of fun!
Measuring your childs foot at home is not as difficult as you might think - unless you have a squirmy baby like me (Hint: give them something to hold while you do this process, it is a good distraction!). All you need is a piece of paper, a pencil and a tape measure. To measure your childs foot, simply place their foot flat on the piece of paper (on a flat surface like tiles) and mark a line along the back of their heel and another at the tip of their longest toe. Once you have done this, grab your tape measure or ruler and measure the distance between the two marked lines. This will give you the length of their foot. (You can also apply this method to their foot width).
Once you have their foot measurement, in centremeters (cm) is best, add an extra 1/2 cm onto the length to allow for wiggle room at the toes. (E.g. If your baby's foot measures 12.4cm, then adding 1/2cm will give you a total measurement of 12.9cm. This is the number you will need to use as a guide when looking at the shoe sizings.
Don't be concerned if your 13 month old baby's foot measurement puts them in the 18-24mth size category. This is just a sizing guide and each child's foot grows at a different rate and each shoe brand has their own interpretation of an average foot size. This is why it is always best to know their foot length.
All of our shoes have a sizing guide attached to make it easier when selecting a pair of shoes. Our shoe sizing guides give you the shoe size in AU, US and EU sizings as well as cm's. Each shoe is measured in the sole length and if in doubt, it is always best to go into the next size as you can always wear thicker socks until their foot grows!
If you are still wanting to confirm you are ordering the right size or if your child has wide fitting or chubby feet, please don't hesitate to contact us and will be more than happy to assist you.
